The anticipated Disney and Pixar sequel, Inside Out 2, premieres in cinemas today. Planning to watch the new sequel in movie theaters? Find out whether Inside Out 2 has an end-credits scene that teases what’s next for the beloved franchise.
Directed by newcomer Kelsey Mann, Inside Out 2 “returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.” according to the film’s official synopsis.
Stranger Things star Maya Hawke is the voice of Anxiety, while the cast also features Amy Poehler as Joy, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Tony Hale as Fear, Liza Lapira as Disgust, Lewis Black as Anger, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, June Squibb as Nostalgia, and more.
Inside Out 2 is on track to have one of the highest opening weekends of 2024 so far. The sequel is projected to bring in $80 million to $85 million in ticket sales from the U.S. and Canada, according to the Los Angeles Times.
As you watch Inside Out 2 in theaters, you might be curious if it’s worth staying in your seat as the after-credits roll. Here’s what to know.
Does Inside Out 2 Have An End-Credits Scene?
Yes, Inside Out 2 has multiple end-credit scenes, so you’ll want to stick around after the credits. Without revealing spoilers, there is a mid-credits gag reel and bloopers that appear after a brief round of credits, as well as a post-credits scene that plays at the very end.
Regarding the significance of these scenes for the future of the Inside Out franchise, they do not directly hint at a third film or include any major announcements (unlike the post-credit scenes in Marvel movies or other major film series).
Will There Be An Inside Out 3?
Disney and Pixar have yet to announce a third Inside Out film. However, director Kelsey Mann told Comicbook.com ahead of the sequel’s premiere that he has “so many ideas” that were not included in Inside Out 2 but could fit into another film down the line.
“I love this world. It’s such a great world to play in, and ideas just kind of come from playing in this world, both for locations and characters,” Mann told the site. “There’s so many ideas not only from the first film, but especially in this one, where I’m like, ‘That’s a really fun, clever idea. I don’t know how it fits into this particular story, but it should be used at some point.’”
One of those ideas was a park called Procrastination Land. “This is the land I definitely have, especially as a teen,” the director added. “It was a land which had a big sign that said ‘Procrastination Land’ and then it said ‘Coming Soon.’ And Anger was like, ‘When are they gonna start building that place?! It just keeps sitting there!’ They haven’t made any movement on it.
He continued, “It’s such a funny idea. We had trouble figuring out why in this particular story. I won’t tell you everything about it, there’s some other stuff about it that’s really funny. So I’m like, ‘This has to be used somehow in the future.’”
Bloomberg reported in May that Pixar was creating a Disney+ spin-off series focusing on the movie studio that makes Riley’s dreams. Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter recently told Entertainment Weekly in June that the new series is completed and will be released next spring.
“We have finished. It’s coming out next spring. I’m not sure that there’s been a specific release date, but in the first film, remember we go to Dream Production to see how Riley’s dreams are made? It semi-explains why they’re so weird. We’ve continued the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life, as well. So it’s pretty cool,” Docter revealed.
