Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is set to undergo surgery to repair a dislocated sternoclavicular joint in his shoulder and will be placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs.
“There are not a lot of these [injuries] that we have information on,” said Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on Friday. “We have to ride it out and see where we’re at. It’s not going to be weeks, it’s going to be more like months.”
The 27-year-old wide receiver did not play during the Chiefs’ Week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens and has been out since suffering the injury during the team’s first preseason game in August. Earlier this month, he was given a 4-6 week recovery timetable, but after further evaluation it was determined surgery would be the best next step as the shoulder was not healing properly. He’ll now have to miss a minimum of the next four games.

Brown posted on X Friday saying he was “disappointed” and frustrated” about his injury.
Brown is not considered done for the season and the Chiefs will monitor his progress.
As recently as Wednesday, Reid said he wouldn’t rule out a return for Brown in Week 2, but things have obviously changed.
