INDORE: Ishwar Bhil and his gang terrorised couples visiting scenic spots near Indore, such as Mehendi Kund, Patalpani, and Bamnia Kund, committing over 20 rapes and brutal murder over three years.
In November 2017, Himanshu and his friend were visiting Mehendi Kund, were lured by Bhil and his accomplices to a secluded area near Nakodi Kund.
There, they were robbed and one of them was gang-raped and both were pushed into a gorge and killed by having their heads crushed with stones.
The case came to light in 2018 when police arrested a petty thief named Satpal Ninama for stealing four sacks of chickpeas. Coincidentally, one of Bhil’s accomplices, Balram, was also in the lockup for the same crime.
The two began quarrelling, each trying to incriminate the other. This led the police to uncover details of the murders of the two ultimately leading them to Bhil.
After fleeing Indore, Bhil continued his criminal activities in Goa, where he was arrested for a gang-rape at Colva Beach in 2018. However, he escaped custody while being taken for a medical examination and remains at large. Bhil was also involved in robbing tourists at train stations and beaches in Goa, blending into the local community by learning local customs and language.
Authorities have offered rewards for information leading to his capture— Rs30,000 by Indore Police and Rs1 lakh by Goa Police for his involvement in a rape case.
