Philadelphia Union to host Leagues Cup Quarterfinal on August 17 against Mazatlán FC

The Boys in Blue are into the Quarterfinals for the second consecutive year after knocking off FC Cincinnati on the road Tuesday night. The match marked the first time in the two-year competition that the Boys in Blue had played away from Subaru Park but the result went Philly’s favor with a 4-2 result. The Union are now unbeaten in their last six matches after finishing top of East Group 4 after defeating Charlotte FC, 1-0, and battling powerhouse Cruz Azul to a 1-1 draw. They began their knock out round journey with a 2-0 win over CF Montreal last week behind a brace from Tai Baribo.

Saturday’s opponent comes to Chester off the heels of a massive result as Mazatlán FC defeated Cruz Azul by a 2-1 margin on Tuesday night. The Mexican side began their tournament run with a 1-0 loss to New England Revolution but have found their form despite being the No. 45 seed in the tournament with a 2-0 road win at Nashville SC to secure their spot into the Knockout Round. Mazatlán made the most of a first-half red card to spring the update of D.C. United in the Round of 32 with a 2-1 win as well.
