Bronny James and Dalton Knecht, the Los Angeles Lakers’ two draftees, are expected to be in the G League at some point next season.
That’s per Lakers G League and (summer league) coach Dane Johnson, who provided this answer when asked about James spending time with the South Bay Lakers.
“I don’t know about that yet, so I can’t really comment on that,” Johnson said, per ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “But I think all these guys are going to be in the G League at some point — the draftees.”
James said after his team’s 99-80 loss to the Houston Rockets in Las Vegas summer league action on Friday that he’s “just looking forward to any basketball I play, no matter what level I’m playing at” when asked about possibly suiting up in the G League.
After three summer league games, James has shot just 6-of-26 (0-of-12 from three-point range), averaging five points an outing. He has impressed on the defensive end, though, with five steals in three games.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported on the July 3 SportsCenter (2:20 mark) that the expectation is for James to begin the season with the Lakers and get court time with his father, Lakers star LeBron James, before spending most of his time this year with the South Bay Lakers.
For now, James continues his summer league journey. He has four games left, beginning with a clash with the Boston Celtics on Monday.
