Rutgers was on the wrong end of a defensive battle with the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln, Neb., last weekend and suffered its first loss of the season. The Cornhuskers owned a 14-0 halftime lead and finished off the win by holding quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis to 15-of-37 passing for 186 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Scarlet Knights have called defense a strength all season with the sixth-best unit in the country in red zone scoring rate (61.5%) and the No. 17 scoring defense (15.8 ppg).

The Wisconsin program is built on the same principles of hard-nosed defense and power running, but the Badgers also rode 359 passing yards from quarterback Braedyn Locke in last week’s 52-6 win over Purdue. That victory snapped a two-game losing streak to ranked teams No. 4 Alabama (42-10) and No. 13 USC (38-21).
