The Buffalo Bills won their Thursday night matchup with the Miami Dolphins 31-10, a game in which Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left with a concussion in the third quarter.
Tagovailoa was trying to convert a fourth down with Miami trailing by 21 points when he collided head first with Bills safety Damar Hamlin. Tagovailoa’s teammates immediately called for trainers as he lay on the ground. He walked off under his own power and was ruled out.
Things were not going well for the Dolphins even before the injury.
Buffalo jumped out to a 31-10 lead thanks mostly to three interceptions by Tagovailoa. Running back James Cook scored three touchdowns for the Bills — two on the ground and one in the air. Quarterback Josh Allen had a simple night, completing 13 of 19 passes for 139 yards. Cook ran for 78 yards on 11 carries.
The attention will now turn to Tagovailoa, who has a history with concussions. He sustained two during the Dolphins’ 2022 season and was suspected of having sustained another one before both — a controversy that resulted in the NFL and the NFL Players Associationrevamping the league’s concussion protocol midseason.
The Bills improved to 2-0 with the win and will face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3.
Miami fell to 1-1 and will play Seattle on Sept. 22.
