Cowboys-Rams to practice again on Aug. 14

OXNARD, Calif. – For the third time in a one-week span, the Cowboys and Rams will square off again.

After a joint practice last week on Aug. 8, followed by the preseason opener on Aug. 11 for both teams, the Cowboys and Rams have decided to practice again this week. The Rams will return to Oxnard for another joint practice on Wednesday Aug. 14 at the Cowboys’ training camp practice fields.

The only difference this week is the time of practice as the Rams and Cowboys will have a mid-morning “scrimmage” that starts at 11 a.m. and will likely run for about two hours. As always, practices are free and open to the public at the Oxnard River Ridge Sports Complex.

The idea for both teams is to let the starters have a little more unique competition against other teams, considering the starters aren’t expected to play much, if any, in the upcoming preseason games.

The Cowboys rested nearly 25 players last Sunday against the Rams, and most of those players were starters and/or regular contributors.

Dak Prescott, who hasn’t played a preseason game since 2019, didn’t even dress out in uniform, while other starters such as Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs, DeMarcus Lawrence, Zack Martin and Ezekiel Elliott went through warm-ups in uniform, only to take the pads off for the entire game.

But while that will likely be the same routine next Saturday when the Cowboys head to Las Vegas for the second preseason game, another practice with the Rams on Wednesday should give the starters a better dose of practice reps, although there won’t be live tackling.

Last Thursday, the Rams and Cowboys had a spirited practice where the fights and skirmishes were held to a minimum. Overall, it was considered good work for both teams, which is likely why Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and Rams head coach Sean McVay have decided to do it again.
