The 2024 NBA Summer League started Friday in Las Vegas, where Bronny James and the Los Angeles Lakers were searching for their first win of the summer.
However, that will have to wait at least one more game, as the Houston Rockets handed the Lakers a 99-80 loss at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Despite the loss, James played arguably his best statistical game of the summer, finishing with a summer league-high eight points on 3-of-14 shooting on the night.
With the loss, the Lakers have now lost four consecutive games of the summer after dropping all three games at the California Classic Summer League last week.

The former Tennessee Volunteer guard finished with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting, 15 of which came from 3-point range.
Elsewhere, Reed Sheppard — the No. 3 overall pick of the 2024 NBA draft — and 2023 first-round pick Cam Whitmore (MVP of the 2023 NBA Summer League), finished with a combined 43 points for the Rockets on 17-of-34 shooting.

James signed a four-year/$7.9 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, July 3 after the Lakers selected the USC guard with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Last year’s No. 55 overall pick, Miami’s Isaiah Wong, signed a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers that was worth around $600,000 and $700,000 per Goodman.
