This happened at the swearing-in ceremony of Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada.“It remains unclear as to what transpired. Tamilisai could not be reached throughout the day,” said a senior BJP leader. TV visuals showed Tamilisai greeting Venkaiah Naidu and Shah on stage and proceeding to greet others before being called back by Shah. He was seen wagging his finger as she appeared to be explaining something. There have been reports of an internal rift between Tamilisai and BJP state president K Annamalai following the party’s poor performance in Lok Sabha polls in TN. Tamilisai resigned her governor’s post in March and unsuccessfully contested in Chennai South Parliamentary constituency.
Virtually endorsed AIADMK leader S P Velumani’s statement that if the alliance remained intact, AIADMK-BJP combine would have won the elections, Tamilisai had said that if the two parties stayed together, DMK wouldn’t have swept the polls. This, her supporters said, triggered some ‘derogatory remarks’ from Annamalai’s ‘war room’. Sources said BJP state unit’s core committee, led by Annamalai, held an online meeting on Wednesday afternoon to discuss Vikravandi bypoll. “Neither was there any mention about Tamilisai’s remarks on the alliance nor the Amit Shah-Tamilisai interaction. There were demands for a physical meeting soon to discuss party affairs,” said a party source.
Tamilisai is the daughter of Congress veteran Kumari Anandan. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee, via its official handle on X, shared the 11-second video of the Shah-Tamilisai talk and criticised BJP’s “culture and attitude towards women”. The post, along with the video, read: “Anyone with some self-respect will give it back to him and quit, @DrTamilisai4BJP. Being a qualified doctor and a former governor, you don’t have to take such insults, that too from a history sheeter!”
