Akhilesh Yadav-Dimple Yadav first UP couple in Lok Sabha together | Kanpur News

KANPUR: Samajwadi Party president and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav, a sitting MP from Mainpuri, will be the first couple from UP to make it to the Lok Sabha together.
On Wednesday, Akhilesh officially quit Karhal assembly seat to retain Kannauj Lok Sabha seat.

Earlier, Akhilesh and Dimple were members of the 17th Lok Sabha but at different time periods.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Akhilesh won from Azamgarh but Dimple was defeated in Kannauj by BJP’s Subrat Pathak.

Earlier, Pappu Yadav and his wife Ranjit Ranjan from Bihar had also reached Lok Sabha together twice in 2004 and 2014, although both were in different parties then. This time too, Pappu Yadav has won the election as an independent candidate while his wife is a Rajya Sabha member from Congress.

Bollywood actor couple Dharmendra and Hema Malini have also been in Parliament together at the same time, although both were in different houses. While Dharmendra was in Lok Sabha from 2004-2009, Hema Malini was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009.
