Howard “Frankie” Beverly, the frontman for the legendary group, Maze with Frankie Beverly, has passed away at the age of 77 according to statement released by his family. A cause of death was not released.

Beverly went on a farewell tour earlier this year where he received his flowers by many people within music and entertainment.

“Before I Let Go”, made its musical debut on the legendary R&B group, Frankie Beverly and Maze’s “Live In New Orleans” album in 1981. Since then, it has been a thread in the cultural fabric of the Black community and the iconic ESSENCE Festival of Culture.

During the 2024 ESSENCE Festival of Culture, Beverly received a proclamation from Marc E. Morial and current Mayor of New Orleans, Latoya Cantrell. Frankie Beverly and Maze have been a staple at the legendary festival since its launch in 1995. While adorned in all white, Beverly did not say much. However, the tens of thousands inside the Caesars Superdome gave him the proverbial flowers.

“All white linen at Essence Fest is a thing,” exclaimed GRAMMY-award winning songwriter Johnta Austin on social media. “And it’s a thing because of the great Howard “Frankie” Beverly! The epitome of Black joy through song! The height of feel good music. Made the greatest black cookout record of all time “Before I Let Go” Rest easy Frankie! THANK YOU!”

His voice has inspired millions. His music was the soundtrack of many family reunions. More importantly, Frankie Beverly’s legacy will live on forever.

“His timeless music, his powerful words and his lasting impact. I’m devastated to hear about this one,” said Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. “My prayers are with the Beverly family and the many Frankie fans across the world! His legacy will live on forever. Rest easy my friend. Long Live Frankie.”

May his legacy and music continue to be a blessing.
