BENGALURU: A city-based business development professional was fired from his job after he reportedly threatened to throw acid on a social media influencer‘s face for not dressing properly.
The influencer’s husband took to social media to expose the professional, identified as Nikith Shetty, and claimed he had lodged a complaint with police. The husband posted the screenshot of a message allegedly posted by Shetty, which read: “Hey b#$@, kindly tell your wife to follow a good dress specially in Karnataka or else I may splash acid on her face.”
The husband, while tagging deputy CM DK Shivakumar and city police, appealed: “This person is threatening to throw acid on my wife’s face for her choice of clothes. Please take immediate action against this person to prevent any incident from happening. This criminal works for @etiosservices, I don’t think women are safe there.”
He told TOI: “As she is a social media influencer, she gets at least 10 abusive messages every day. But this particular message was harmful, so we got scared. Police said they will find him and they are investigating the case.”
The 30-year-old influencer said, “A man getting offended by what I wear is something sad…and expecting me to dress according to how they want is quite disturbing. How can someone think of destroying my life by throwing acid?”
Reacting to his post, the Dehradun-based digital marketing firm Etios Services announced: “As a company committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment, we have taken immediate action. Nikith’s employment has been terminated and we have filed a case against him to ensure accountability for his actions. We stand firmly against any form of harassment and are dedicated to upholding women’s rights and safety in our workplace and beyond.”
