ROSEBURG, Ore. — The official candidates running in the Roseburg November 5 General Election have been announced following the candidacy deadline on August 27.
The City of Roseburg is urging residents to register to vote soon in order to have a voice in the decision on who fills the multiple positions that are up for grabs and what they want for their community.
“I would encourage people to exercise their right to vote. It’s crucial for our elected officials to receive that feedback,” said City Recorder Amy Nytes. “You make change in your own community that way. You influence policy and you influence change.”
The positions and candidates running for the November 5 general election include:
- Mayor – Larry Rich
- City Councilor Ward 1, Position 2 – David Mohr, Katie Williams
- City Councilor Ward 2, Position 2 – Andrea Zielinski, Steve Hammerson
- City Councilor Ward 3, Position 2 – Tom Michalek, Sam Starns
- City Councilor Ward 4, Position 2 – Blake Mecham, Zack Weiss
As for who will run for mayor this year, Larry Rich is going unchallenged in this year’s election. Rich was first elected in 1998 and has served as Roseburg’s mayor for the last 26 years. Earlier this year, Mayor Rich faced heart related issues, but says he is quickly returning back to full health to continue his dedication to the city. https://kpic.com/news/local/roseburg-mayor-recovers-from-open-heart-surgery
“I am willing to run and serve again. I enjoy giving back to my community and this is the opportunity for me to do so,” said Rich. “I’m still young, I’m still energetic, I’m still willing to put the time in and serve my community”.
The City Recorder is currently working on a packet that includes more details about the candidates including statements from each person looking to capture a position. City staff are expected to release that packet digitally sometime early October.
The deadline to register to vote is on October 15. Visit the Roseburg City website here to learn more.
