Grand Blanc’s Grant Fisher has added another Olympic medal to his coffers.
The runner who grew up in Michigan already claimed a bronze medal in the men’s 10,000 meter race earlier in the 2024 Paris Olympics and on Saturday, Fisher became the first American man to medal in both the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter races in a single Olympics.
On the final lap, Fisher was outside of medal position and needed to make a dramatic push to climb up the leaderboard. He did just that, finding some late energy to somehow pass three runners in the final seconds to claim his second bronze medal in Paris.

Fisher clocked a time of 13:15.13, which was just enough to get him the bronze. Meanwhile, Norwegian distance-runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen took home the gold with a strong push himself to pull away from the pack. Ingebrigtsen beat out Ronald Kwemoi by nearly two seconds, as the Kenyan runner took home the silver medal.
After a prolific running career at Grand Blanc High School, Fisher took his talents to the West Coast to run for Stanford and to study electrical engineering.
Fisher also participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, placing fifth in the 10,000 meter and ninth in the 5,000 meter.
