Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh find everlasting love after she accidentally runs him over in her car in the trailer for director John Crowley’s We Live in Time, which dropped on Wednesday.
That chance encounter changes their lives over decades as they find romance, build a home and family together and face a host of challenges on their way. With their relationship still apparently fresh, Tobias (Garfield) at one point in the trailer, having shed his neck brace after his car accident injuries, tells Almut (Pugh) that he must leave, only to be asked why he’s in a rush.
“Because I’m worried there’s a very distinct and real possibility that I’m about to fall in love with you,” he answers, before they embrace passionately. Along with the birth of a child, Almut faces her own health crisis at another point in the trailer, which has Tobias now at her side in support.
Ultimately, Almut and Tobias face a difficult truth that rocks the foundation of their world in a teaser that doesn’t disclose their secret, but is equally light and dark in parts as snapshots of their life together unfold.
Pugh as an Oscar nominee has screen credits that include Don’t Worry Darling, the Netflix period drama The Wonder, A Good Person, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two. Garfield appeared in the miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven and earned his own Oscar nomination for Tick, Tick … Boom!
StudioCanal is behind the feature helmed by Crowley, the director behind the romance drama Brooklyn and Garfield’s break-out role Boy A. He directed We Live in Time from a screenplay by playwright Nick Payne, with SunnyMarch as a producer.
Producers credits on We Live in Time are shared by Adam Ackland, Leah Clarke, Benedict Cumberbatch and Guy Heeley.
