Warning! This article contains spoilers for Agatha All Along episode 5.
Agatha All Along episode 5’s ending features the reveal of Teen’s identity, the confirmed death of a major character, and the seeming murder of Agatha’s coven. After the ending of Agatha All Along episode 4, the main questions still centered around Teen, who Rio insisted to Agatha was not her boy. This led to more theories about Joe Locke’s mysterious character being revealed as Marvel Comics’ Nicholas Scratch, Agatha Harkness’ son, as well as providing some evidence that Rio is actually the MCU’s Lady Death.
Meanwhile, the other witches of Agatha All Along‘s central coven were still dealing with their own issues. Alice Wu-Gulliver removed the curse on her family, begging the question of which member of the coven would be focused on in Agatha All Along episode 5. As it turned out, the latest trial of the MCU’s Witches’ Road centered around the titular witch herself, imbuing the show with deceit, treachery, dark spirits, and death before ending Agatha All Along episode 5 with the massive reveal of Teen’s true identity.
Teen’s Identity Reveal In Agatha All Along Episode 5 Explained
Teen Is Finally Confirmed As A Long-Theorized Character
Since Agatha All Along began, the show’s biggest question has been evident: Who is Joe Locke’s Marvel character? The sigil placed on Teen meant that this answer was withheld for a while, yet Agatha All Along episode 5’s ending finally provides the answer. As Teen explodes in anger towards Agatha for the death of Alice, the titular witch tells Teen that he is just like his mother. Teen then unleashes some magical power by taking over the bodies of Jen and Lilia, seemingly killing the duo and Agatha by burying them in sinking mud.
The camera then pulls back, revealing Teen to be wearing a crown of blue. This crown is very similar to that of the Scarlet Witch, confirming Teen as Billy Kaplan. In Marvel Comics, Billy Kaplan is the reincarnation of Wanda Maximoff’s son, Billy, and later goes on to become Wiccan, a Young Avenger. With the Scarlet Witch-like crown, Agatha’s comment about Teen being so much like his mother, his strong powers, and the evidence that previously mounted for this reveal, Agatha All Along episode 5’s ending finally confirmed the inevitable.
How Did Agatha Figure Out Teen’s Identity?
Agatha’s “You’re So Much Like Your Mother Line” Explained
One of the burning questions coming out of Agatha All Along episode 5’s ending is how Agatha figured out that Teen was Billy. It is clear that she did so, based on her comment that Teen is so much like his mother before he attacked her. This implies that she has known that Billy’s mother was Wanda for a while, but how she figured this out is not outlined, despite other mysteries like Agatha’s connection to the Salem Seven being revealed.

Firstly, she likely began to suspect when she saw the sigil on Teen in Agatha All Along‘s premiere. While episode 4 saw Agatha confirm that sigils work against even those who cast them, she likely suspected it was Wanda who cast the spell in order to protect her son from other witches. This was likely driven home in Agatha All Along episode 4’s ending when Rio stated that Teen is not Agatha’s boy. With the confirmation he is not Nicholas Scratch, Agatha likely committed to the idea of him being Billy.

Finally, the comment about Billy being so much like his mother also hints at how Agatha figured out his identity. Is Alice Wu-Gulliver Really Dead? Her Agatha All Along Episode 5 Fate Explained
Agatha Seemingly Killed Alice By Draining Her Powers
The trial of the Witches’ Road in Agatha All Along episode 5’s ending saw the ghost of Agatha’s mother, Evanora, appear to take revenge on her daughter for murdering her during the Salem Witch Trials. This event was shown in WandaVision and led to Agatha being possessed by her mother in Agatha All Along episode 5. In an attempt to save her, Alice blasted Agatha with her magical power to exorcise Evanora’s ghost. Despite Alice’s attempts to help, the dark shades of Agatha shown in WandaVision‘s climactic ending resurfaced.
Agatha draining the powers of the witches in her coven was teased in Agatha All Along episode 2 when she revealed she never intended to walk the Witches’ Road and tried to provoke them into attacking her.
As was teased in the premiere, Agatha began to drain Alice’s power after being blasted. Although the titular witch later claimed it was unintentional, Alice’s power was nonetheless drained by Agatha, seemingly killing the former. This begs the question of whether Alice will stay dead, yet it seems she will, as Sharon Davis did. It has been a common Agatha All Along theory that the coven will die one by one until only Agatha remains, and Alice’s apparent death seems to support that in Agatha All Along episode 5’s ending.

One of the more shocking elements of Teen’s reveal as Billy was his attack against Agatha, Jen, and Lilia. After Agatha provoked Teen by stating he was like his mother, the young magic-wielder took control of Lilia and Jen’s bodies. The two took hold of Agatha and threw her into the sinking mud at the side of the Witches’ Road before Teen/Billy cast the duo into the mud themselves. As all three sank and Billy’s Easter-egg-heavy crown formed, Agatha All Along episode 5 officially ended, leaving the fates of the rest of the coven unknown.

While Jen and Lilia could have perished in Agatha All Along episode 5’s ending, it is unlikely that Agatha did. The character of Rio is still a wildcard and was notably absent in episode 5’s final scene, meaning she could save either all three witches or, more likely, just Agatha. With Sharon and now Alice dying on the Witches’ Road, it could be the end for one or both of these characters.

Rio Vidal’s Absence Suggests A Common MCU Theory May Be True

There have now been several teases of Lady Death appearing in the MCU, which is exciting given the powerful being’s rich Marvel Comics history.
As Billy was having his fateful showdown with the other three witches, Rio was nowhere to be seen. This is another hint at her true identity as Lady Death, as she was likely dealing with the newly dead body and spirit of Alice Wu-Gulliver. Rio was shown stealing notable glances towards Alice’s body after her death, as, if the theory is indeed true, it is her job to deal with the dead. This would explain why she was absent from the final scene, as she undoubtedly would have tried to save Agatha from Teen only to kill her herself later.
Is Teen/Billy Agatha All Along’s Main Villain?
What Billy’s Actions Mean For Agatha All Along’s Remaining Episodes
With Teen revealed as Billy and seemingly killing Agatha, Jen, and Lilia, the question of what this means for Agatha All Along‘s story is prevalent. Many will question if Billy will now be the show’s main villain, in place of the previously theorized Rio Vidal or the Salem Seven. However, Billy would certainly make sense as an antagonist to Agatha, given the bad blood between the latter and Billy’s mother. That said, Billy eventually becomes Wiccan and one of the Young Avengers members, meaning his depiction as a villain makes little sense.

That said, the show could be turned on its head thanks to Billy’s reveal. Thus far, Agatha has been the show’s protagonist, yet the story has not been afraid to showcase her darker tendencies. This could mean that going forward, Billy is Agatha All Along‘s protagonist and Agatha becomes its villain. This would allow Billy/Wiccan to be shown in a more heroic light and keep Agatha as a villain in the MCU as she has been previously. Above all else, this would prove that, fittingly, the show’s villain has been Agatha all along.
