The Pittsburgh Steelers opened their season with an 18-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, behind six Chris Boswell field goals. The Steelers failed to score a touchdown, but their defense held the Falcons to just one score and a field goal. Boswell became the first Steelers kicker in their history to kick three field goals of 50-yards or longer in a game. He also tied his own record with the six field goals.
Boswell even had a 43-yard punt in the fourth quarter after punter Cameron Johnson suffered a leg injury when he was hit by a Falcons player. No penalty was called on that play.
Justin Fields started at quarterback for the Steelers. He threw for 156 yards and ran for another 57. Najee Harris led the team’s backfield with 70 yards on 20 carries. TJ Watt led the Steelers defense with a sack of Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins to end the game, and recovered a fumble. He had two other sacks negated by penalties.
The Steelers visit the Denver Broncos Sunday at 4:25pm. The Broncos lost to Seattle 26-20 in their season opener. The Broncos defense scored two safeties in the game.
