The United States men’s basketball team will take on host nation France in the gold medal match of the Paris 2024 Olympics basketball tournament at the Bercy Arena in the early hours on Sunday.
The France vs USA men’s basketball final at Paris 2024 will be broadcast live in Australia. The FRA vs USA gold medal match is scheduled to start at 5:30 AM AEST on Sunday.
The USA have had a stellar run so far at Paris 2024. They finished on top of Group C with three wins in three matches and registered a convincing 122-87 win against Brazil in the quarter-finals.
However, Serbia tested their resolve in the semi-finals. Despite trailing with 11 points after three quarters, the USA made a remarkable recovery, scoring 31 points in the final quarter to edge out the world No. 4 Serbia 95-91.
France are enjoying a decent campaign as well on home turf. They finished second in Group B with two wins in three matches, before edging out Canada 82-73 in the quarter-finals.
France had lost to Germany earlier in the group stages but won 73-69 against them in the semis to make the finals for the second time running.
Australia, bronze medallists at Tokyo 2020, exited in the quarter-finals at Paris 2024 after a 95-90 defeat to Serbia on Tuesday.
In the history of men’s basketball at the Olympics, France and the USA have locked horns eight times. The US team won seven of these matches.
France’s only victory in Olympic basketball against the USA came at Tokyo 2020 in the group stages. However, when both these teams met in the final later, the USA stormed to an 87-82 victory and won their 16th gold medal in this event.
France have reached the final three times previously and lost to the USA on all three occasions.
