To put it short and sweet, Sabrina Carpenter is a big winner after the 2025 Grammy Award nominations were announced Friday. The 25-year-old capped off her breakthrough year with six nominations, including a spot in all four major categories. Along with Best New Artist, Carpenter will compete for Album of the Year for Short n’ Sweet, Record of the Year for the chart-topping “Espresso,” and Song of the Year for another No. 1 single “Please Please Please.”
Like Carpenter, Chappell Roan received six nominations off the success of her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (2023). The 26-year-old is also eligible in the “Big Four” categories, with her single “Good Luck, Babe!” getting a nod for Record and Song of the Year.
While Carpenter and Roan are the new stars trying to make their mark, Beyoncé still reigns as queen. She received the most nominations of any artist with 11, including Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter as well as Record and Song of the Year for “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Beyoncé now has 99 career Grammy nominations, moving her out of a tie with her husband, Jay-Z, for the most ever.
Some of the other most-nominated artists include Post Malone, Billie Eilish, and Kendrick Lamar—with seven each—and Taylor Swift with six. Here are all of the 2025 Grammy nominations in the Big Four categories, as well as some other major news from the announcement.
Beyoncé is looking to become the first Black woman to win Album of the Year this century. The last Black woman to receive the honor was Lauryn Hill in 1999 for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Aside from Hill, Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston are the only other women to achieve the feat. Talk about elite company.
Nearly 30 years after their last Grammy nominations, the Beatles are competing for Record of the Year as well as Best Rock Performance for “Now and Then.” According to Billboard, the song is the first created with the assistance of artificial intelligence to receive a nomination. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr used a form of AI called “stem separation” in which they isolated the late John Lennon’s vocal from a 60-year-old demo to create the track.
Swift has received 14 Grammys in her career, including four for Album of the Year. So, you might be surprised to learn she has never won for Song of the Year. The 34-year-old has seven prior nominations in the category, including last year for “Anti-Hero,” but is still seeking her first trophy. Same goes for Record of the Year, with five prior nominations.
Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter was snubbed for the upcoming CMA Awards on November 20, but the album is now nominated for Best Country Album at the Grammys. Post Malone also made the cut with his first country project, F-1 Trillion. However, they face tough competition in the category from genre giants like defending winner Lainey Wilson, Chris Stapleton, and Kacey Musgraves.
Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen received his first two Grammy nominations in Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song for “I Had Some Help,” his collaboration with Malone.
Prior to Friday, Charli XCX had only two career nominations, both in 2015 for her collaboration “Fancy” with rapper Iggy Azalea. This year, the 32-year-old British star more than tripled her chances with seven nominations off the success of her album Brat.
In addition to the Album of the Year and Record of the Year, she is competing for Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Dance Pop Recording, Best Dance/Electronic Album, and Best Remixed Recording. The video for her song “360,” featuring cameos from Chloë Sevigny, Rachel Sennott, and Julia Fox is also nominated for Best Music Video.
The Grammys are about more than music, and former U.S. President Jimmy Carter is the most notable example. Carter, who turned 100 years old in October, received his fourth career Grammy nomination for Best Audiobook, Narration, and Storytelling Recording with Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration. Other nominees in the category include Dolly Parton for Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones and Barbra Streisand for her memoir, My Name Is Barbra.
Dave Chappelle could win his second straight and sixth career Grammy for Best Comedy Album with The Dreamer next year. That would move him solely into second all-time behind Bill Cosby. Other nominees in the category are past Grammy host Trevor Noah, Jim Gaffigan, Nikki Glaser, and Ricky Gervais.
The 2025 Grammy Awards are February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The ceremony will air on CBS and streaming network Paramount+. A host for the event hasn’t been announced.
