U.S. women, men in relays, breaking begins

Good morning! It’s Day 14 of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Here’s what you should be looking out for today.

There’s an enormous 35 medal events today as we hit the business end of the Paris Games. That includes eight crucial track and field events, the start of and first medal in breaking (or break-dancing), and lots of team sports finals too.

Track and field hits fever pitch today with a packed schedule and Team USA is hoping to outdo its historic day Thursday, which was the first day since the 1992 Barcelona Games when it won eight or more track and field medals in a single day. Sha’Carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas are expected to feature in the women’s 4x100m relay at 1:30 p.m. ET and 7:30 p.m. local time; a Noah Lyles-less men’s 4x100m relay team will race at 1:47 p.m. ET and 7:47 p.m. local time.

Elsewhere in track and field, Raven Saunders carries America’s hopes in the women’s shot-put at 1:37 p.m. ET and 7:37 p.m. local time; Alexis Holmes races in the women’s 400m at 2:00 p.m. ET and 8:00 p.m. local time; Salif Mane takes on the men’s triple jump at 2:13 p.m. ET and 8:13 p.m. local time; Anna Hall finishes off the women’s heptathlon at 2:37 p.m. ET and 8:37 p.m. local time; Weini Kelati races in the women’s 10,000m at 2:57 p.m. ET and 8:57 p.m. local time; and Rai Benjamin rounds things off with the men’s 400m hurdles at 3:45 p.m. ET and 9:45 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, Queens-native Sunny Choi will be America’s competitor for the inaugural women’s breaking medal at 3:19 p.m. ET and 9:19 p.m. local time; the U.S. women’s basketball team will try to shoot its way past Australia and into its eighth straight final at 11:30 p.m. ET and 5:30 p.m. local time; and soccer fans will get the chance to watch host France play European Championships-winner Spain in the men’s soccer gold match at 12:00 p.m. ET and 6:00 p.m. local time.

Table Tennis — The men’s team bronze medal match is at 4:00 a.m. ET and 10:00 a.m. local time; the men’s team gold medal match is at 9:00 a.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. local time.

Sailing — Men’s kite is at 6:13 a.m. ET and 12:13 p.m. local time.

Sport Climbing — Men’s bouldering and lead combined is at 6:35 a.m. ET and 12:35 p.m. local time.

Canoe Sprint — Women’s C-2 500m is at 6:50 a.m. ET and 12:50 p.m. local time; women’s K-2 500m is at 7:10 a.m. ET and 1:10 p.m. local time; men’s K-2 500m is at 7:10 a.m. ET and 1:10 p.m. local time; men’s K-2 500m is at 7:30 a.m. ET and 1:30 p.m. local time; men’s C-1 1,000m is at 7:50 a.m. ET and 1:50 p.m. local time.

Field Hockey — The women’s tournament bronze medal match is at 8:00 a.m. ET and 2:00 p.m. local time; the women’s tournament gold medal match is at 2:00 p.m. ET and 8:00 p.m. local time.

Rhythmic Gymnastics — Individual all-around is at 8:30 a.m. ET and 2:30 p.m. local time.

Diving — Women’s 3m springboard is at 9:00 a.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. local time.

Soccer — The women’s tournament bronze medal match is at 9:00 a.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. local time.

Weightlifting —Men’s 89kg/196 lbs. is at 9:00 a.m. ET and 3:00 p.m. local time; women’s 71kg/156 lbs. is at 1:30 p.m. ET and 7:30 p.m. local time.

Volleyball — The men’s tournament bronze medal match is at 10:00 a.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. local time.

Cycling — Men’s sprint deciding race is at 12:00 p.m. ET and 6:00 a.m. local time; women’s Madison is at 12:09 p.m. ET and 6:09 p.m. local time.

Wrestling — Men’s freestyle 57 kg/125 lbs. medal matches are at 1:30 p.m. ET and 7:30 p.m. local time; women’s freestyle 57 kg/125 lbs. medal matchesa are at 2:50 p.m. ET and 8:50 p.m. local time.

Taekwondo — Women’s welterweight (67kg/148 lbs.) medal rounds are at 2:19 p.m. ET and 8:19 p.m. local time; men’s welterweight (80kg/176 lbs.) medal rounds are at 2:34 p.m. ET and 8:34 p.m. local time.

Beach Volleyball — The women’s tournament bronze medal match is at 3:00 p.m. ET and 9:00 p.m. local time; the women’s tournament gold medal match is at 4:30 p.m. ET and 10:30 p.m. local time.

Boxing — Men’s welterweight (71kg/156 lbs.) is at 3:30 p.m. ET and 9:30 p.m. local time; women’s flyweight (50kg/110 lbs.) is at 3:47 p.m. ET and 9:47 p.m. local time; men’s heavyweight (92kg/202 lbs.) is at 4:34 p.m. ET and 10:34 p.m. local time; women’s welterweight (66kg/145 lbs.) is at 4:51 p.m. ET and 10:51 p.m. local time.
