NAGPUR: A man in his 30s stoned his friend to death and was later found weeping by the police near Gondwana Square in Hudkeshwar on Friday evening. The altercation began when the victim mocked the assailant’s wife.
Ankush Akare, an e-rickshaw mechanic, was berated by his wife for consuming liquor with his friend, Dhawal Natkar.
Natkar, a service mechanic with a private firm, had gone to his sister’s residence for dinner.After meeting Akare, who lived nearby, the two decided to drink together. Akare’s wife, enraged after seeing her husband in an inebriated state, left home with their children. Upset with his wife, Akare wanted to continue drinking with Natkar. The victim offered Akare a ride on his bike to buy more liquor.
On the way, Natkar made some comments about Akare’s wife, which angered Akare.
Akare got down from the bike, picked up a stone, and assaulted Natkar, who collapsed after a few blows and died on the spot. The police alerted Natkar’s family after finding his cellphone and other identification details.
According to sources from Hudkeshwar police station, officers were searching for Akare when they found him weeping in a lane near the murder scene, distraught over the murder.
Hudkeshwar police produced Akare before court, which remanded him to police custody until June 11.
