PATNA: A Chinese citizen, Li Jiaqi, 63, from Shandong province in the neighbouring country, attempted suicide in Muzaffarpur’s Amar Shahid Khudiram Bose Central Jail Friday evening. He was found injured and unconscious in the toilet of the jail’s hospital ward after trying to cut his private parts with a broken eyeglass. The jail authorities immediately rushed him to the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital, Muzaffarpur, where he is currently being treated in a critical condition.
Li Jiaqi was arrested on June 6 near Laxmi Chowk within the jurisdiction of the Brahmapura police station in Muzaffarpur for not having an Indian visa.
A map of China, a cellphone, three small stone statues, and some currencies of China, Nepal, and India were recovered from his possession. A case was registered under relevant sections of the The Foreigners Act, 1946.
