BAREILLY: A 55-year-old farmer, who also ran a small grocery shop, was beaten to death by two inebriated men after he refused to give them snacks for free in UP’s Kheri district on Friday night. The accused not only thrashed the farmer but also tied him to their bike and dragged him for 300 metres. The incident occurred in Chandaiyapur village under the limits of Padua police station.The farmer, Harnaam Verma, was found dead in a neighbouring village on Saturday.
Harnaam was at his shop when Amar Singh and Nand Kishore arrived and tried to take some snacks without paying. When Harnaam asked them to pay, they refused and hurled abuses at him. An argument ensued, and Nand Kishore attacked Harnaam with sticks. Amar Singh joined in, and together they dragged Harnaam out of the village using their bike.
After receiving information about the incident, Harnaam’s relatives rushed to the spot but couldn’t find him. They informed the police and lodged a complaint. A few hours later, police recovered Harnaam’s body from Kandoha village.
CO Praveen Kumar said, “An FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s son against the two accused under IPC sections 302 (murder), 504 (intentional insult), and 506 (criminal intimidation). There were visible injuries on the victim’s body, and it was sent for autopsy. Multiple teams were deployed to nab the accused, who were absconding after the incident. On Saturday afternoon, we managed to arrest Nand Kishore while he was hiding near Karikot temple. We are sending him to jail.”
