The lift isn’t quite the same. Neither is the speed.
Yet in spite of age, altitude or nostalgia, nothing kept Russell Westbrook from looking familiar once mid-air on Wednesday night in Denver as the Nuggets held off the Thunder for a 124-122 win.
He was still the same ball of energy that Oklahoma City cherished. He was still the catalyst for what felt like an unlikely comeback, a tale he played part in plenty of times over the years. Westbrook meant everything to Denver’s improbable win, a necessary throwback to a better time — both for him and the Nuggets.
He finished with 29 points, six rebounds and six assists, drilling 3 of his 4 3-point attempts. He soared toward the rim, showing off touch that has seemed lost at times this season.
Westbrook enjoyed his best game as a Nugget on Wednesday, and all who watched were reminded of the essence of Westbrook.
