Kicking Off
Iowa State is set to welcome the Northern Colorado Bears to the CSC this Sunday in its penultimate non-conference matchup. Sunday is also Senior Day for the Cyclones, as eight athletes will be recognized for their contributions to the ISU program.
Players who will be recognized on Sunday are Sadie Baich, Morgan Furmaniak, Magdalena Keck, Leia Khairy, Seulgi Lee, Lauren McConnell, Hannah Shaw and Yira Yoggerst. The Senior Day ceremony will begin about 25 minutes prior to kickoff.
Iowa State is set to play in its second straight home contest, having tied with Michigan on Thursday, 2-2. In the matchup with the Wolverines, Furmaniak netted her fourth score of the season, a team-best.
Northern Colorado has had a tough go of it this season, as the Bears currently sit at 0-7. The team has just two scores on the season, with both coming on the road. Sunday’s match will be the last leg of a three-game road stint for the Bears.
From the Notebook
Leading the Cyclones
Through six contests, the Cyclones boast a fairly balanced offense. Senior Magdalena Keck leads the team in points (9), holding a trio of goals while also toting a team-high three assists. Fellow senior Morgan Furmaniak holds the team lead in goals with four.
Senior Hannah Shaw is the third and final Cyclone with multiple goals on the year, as the Tulsa, Okla., native notched a brace against UNI by scoring her first ever collegiate goals. Defenders Ella Zimmerman, Isabella Agrusso, Adelaide Wolfe and Chloe Broughton all also have goals to their names, along with midfielders Seulgi Lee and Sophia Thomas.
Avery Gillahan has been the primary keeper this season in the net for the Cyclones, having played 520 minutes. Gilly tallied her fourth career shutout and first of the season against Western Illinois in the season opener. She currently has 21 saves and holds a 1.73 goals-against average.
Opponent Outlook
Looking to notch its first win of the season, Northern Colorado looks to right the ship in Ames. Unlike Iowa State, UNC still has a handful of non-conference matches left and will not begin conference play until Sept. 26.
The Bears have four point-scorers this season, spearheaded by Lauryn Maggio and Ava Marshall who each have a goal apiece. Both Ashley Hillman and Riley Kaali-Nagy have assists for UNC, rounding out the Bears who have scored.
Kaya Lindberg has been the primary keeper for UNC, as she’s played and started in six of the seven contests. Through six games, Lindberg has allowed 14 goals and owns a 2.33 goals-against average. She owns 30 saves on 86 shots faced.
Series History
Iowa State and Northern Colorado will be meeting for the third time this Sunday. The Cyclones own the series edge, 2-0, with both previous iterations coming in Greeley, Colo. The Cyclones own a 4-0 goal advantage against the Bears and average two scores a game against the Big Sky program.
