LUCKNOW: For a few seconds, everything was devoured by a cloud of dust. The locals stood frozen as they watched a three-storey building collapse like a pack of cards in Transportnagar on Saturday afternoon. A nearby worker described the scene as chaotic and horrifying.
The building, located in an area surrounded by warehouses, came crashing down around 4:45 pm with a loud noise that shook the ground.People rushed out of their offices, only to find the structure collapsed on a truck. A crowd quickly gathered—some began rescue efforts, while others called the police. The building typically housed 50-60 workers, mostly from a lubricant company.
“It was a terrifying sight,” said Bacchan Pandey, manager of a security agency just 10 metres away from the site. “We have never seen anything like this before. It crashed like a mound of dust. I ran to the site to help, offering water to those who were rescued. I just hope the injured recover quickly.”
Deepak Singh, a supervisor at a nearby warehouse, recalled hearing a deafening noise before seeing dust rising in the air.
Dilshad, an office worker in the area, added, “From the condition of the truck, it’s clear that the whole building collapsed in seconds.”
Amit Sharma, a labourer, said, “The building had many workers inside.”
Rescue efforts continued late into the evening as authorities worked to find survivors and assist the injured.
