PARIS (WNDU) – Penn High School alum Sarah Hildebrandt will wrestle for a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old Granger native qualified for the gold medal match in the women’s freestyle 50 kg competition after winning three matches on Tuesday.
According to our reporting partners at the South Bend Tribune, Hildebrandt got off to a strong start in the Round of 16 with a dominating 10-0 victory by technical superiority over Algeria’s Ibtissem Doudou.
She then defeated China’s Ziqi Feng in the quarterfinals in a 7-4 decision before punching her ticket to Wednesday’s gold medal match with an impressive 5-0 win over Otgonjarga Dolgorjav of Mongolia.
Hildrebrandt was supposed to wrestle Vinesh Phogat of India for gold on Wednesday, but will now square off against Cuba’s Yusneylys Guzmán Lopez for the championship after Phogat was disqualified for failing to make weight. The gold medal match will happen sometime after 3 p.m. EDT.
Hildebrandt is a four-time Senior World Championships medalist, a six-team U.S. World Team member and a seven-time Pan-American Championships gold medalist. She wrestled collegiately at King University, where she was a two-time Women’s College Wrestling Association national champion and a four-time finalist.
