2024-07-08 10:45:02

Mumbai received heavy rains early Monday, leading to severe waterlogging in many parts. Train services were affected due to the rains.

Due to waterlogging triggered by rain, many BEST buses diverted from their regular route, says BEST Bus Transport.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai recorded over 300 mm of rainfall at various places in six hours from 1 am to 7 am today.

“Heavy rains in some low-lying areas led to waterlogging and disruption of suburban train services,” BMC said.

Heavy rain is also expected today, BMC warned.

In order to avoid inconvenience to students, BMC has announced a holiday for the first session ‘for all BMC, Government and Private schools and colleges in Mumbai (BMC area)’. The decision for the next session will be announced after reviewing the situation, added BMC.

Train Services Affected
Train services were affected due to the rains.

“Due to heavy rain in mumbai suburban & harbour line train traffic delay due to watter logging. Effected station- CSMT- CHF-LTT,” DRM Mumbai CR tweeted early Monday.

However, later the Western Railway said they have used high capacity water pumps to drain out the water from tracks and that the suburban section is running normally. “Despite heavy downpour, #MumbaiLocals in WR’s Suburban section are running normally to ensure a safe commute for Mumbaikars High capacity water pumps are being utilised to drain water & Railway staff across the section are closely monitoring the situation to keep Mumbai’s lifeline running smoothly,” it said in the tweet.

More than 30 lakh commuters travel daily on the Central Railway‘s suburban network.

Due to waterlogging triggered by rain, many BEST buses have also been diverted from their regular route.

Severe Waterlogging in Mumbai
Many parts of the city saw waterlogging after the heavy rains early Monday. Videos tweeted by news wire agency showed knee deep water in King’s Circle area, Buntara Bhavan in Kurla East, Dadar and other areas.

Meanwhile, many Twitter users took to the social network to share videos of waterlogged streets.

A twitter user, Ameya, wrote, “For those heading to the @CSMIA_Official pls leave home early. Waterlogging in andheri and surrounding areas, making it diff to access the airport. Inside roads too waterlogged. Powai L&T junction too is under water and even if you take the seepz road, doesn’t help #Mumbairains.”

Another claimed, “Do not take ghatkoper metro line route for airport. Heavy waterlogging before Sakinaka Metro.”

Approach road to Mumbai Airport T2 from WEH shut due to water logging, tweeted another.
The Regional Meteorological Centre of Mumbai had earlier issued an yellow alert for rains for Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Aurangabad, Jalna, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Dhule.
