MADRID LOSE AGAIN AS MILAN SEAL EMPHATIC WIN
Real Madrid suffered their second defeat in the UEFA Champions League this season as AC Milan claimed a stunning 3-1 win at the Bernabeu.
Alvaro Morata returned to the Spanish capital to haunt his old side again, while Vinicius Junior’s penalty was not enough as goals from Malick Thiaw and Tijjani Reijnders earned the Italians a huge three points.
Madrid fell behind for the third consecutive game – which has included two ties in the Champions League – when Milan took the lead through Thiaw’s header, who found space in between over Aurelien Tchouameni and Eder Militao to net his first goal for the club.
It did not take long for Madrid to strike back through Vinicius from the spot, who drew a penalty from Emerson Royal’s clumsy challenge. The Brazilian notably stepped up to take the penalty instead of Kylian Mbappe, before clipping it down the middle.
There would be more drama before the break, though, as Morata popped up to fire his new team back in front. Rafael Leao’s strike was saved by Andriy Lunin, but Morata was the only player on alert as he reacted quickly enough to poke home his seventh goal against his old side.
Milan silenced the Bernabeu with a third goal through Reijnders for an astonishing two-goal cushion, and while Madrid threw everything at the away side in search of a comeback in the latter stages, it was not to be as Paulo Fonseca’s side held on for a memorable victory.
