The UFC is at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, for tonight’s UFC 307 pay-per-view fight card. UFC 307 features two title fights at the top of the card. In the main event, UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira faces the No. 8 ranked 205-pounder, Khalil Rountree Jr. While in the co-main event, current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Raquel Pennington meets former champion Julianna Pena.
The main card for UFC 307 streams on ESPN+ PPV following prelims on ESPNews and early prelims on ESPN+.
Pereira, a former UFC middleweight champion, won the vacant light heavyweight title in November 2023 when he knocked out ex-champion Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295. Pereira has defended his title twice in 2024, knocking out ex-champ Jamahal Hill at UFC 300, and scoring a second knockout over Prochazka in their rematch at UFC 303.
Rountree enters UFC 307 on a five-fight winning streak with four of those wins coming by way of knockout. Rountree’s most recent victory was a December TKO over former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith. Rountree was booked to face Hill at UFC 303, but a self-reported drug test failure for a tainted supplement earned Hill a suspension and prevented him from facing Hill.
Pennington won the vacant UFC women’s bantamweight title in January at UFC 297 when she defeated Mayra Bueno Silva by decision. Pennington is unbeaten in her past six fights, winning each bout via decision.
Pena shocked the MMA world in December 2021 when she pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC title-fight history, submitting Amanda Nunes at UFC 269 and winning the UFC women’s bantamweight crown. However, Pena returned the title to Nunes in their UFC 277 rematch, dropping a decision to Nunes. Pena has not fought since losing to Nunes in July 2022. She was booked to face Nunes in a trilogy bout, but injury prevented her from making that fight. Instead, Nunes faced Irene Aldana, retaining her title and then retiring. Pena is the No. 1 ranked fighter in the division.
Before the two UFC 307 title fight take place, there is a possible UFC women’s bantamweight title eliminator on the fight card. In that matchup No. 2 ranked Ketlen Vieira faces No. 3 ranked Kayla Harrison.
Also competing on the main card is former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who meets Mario Bautista in a bantamweight bout.
UFC 307 results, winners and losers will be updated live throughout tonight’s pay-per-view card.
UFC 307 Winners
Ryan Spann: Ryan Spann ended a three-fight losing skid using his powerful striking to force Ovince Saint Preux to shoot for a takedown. The takedown attempt from the stunned Saint Preux allowed Spann to secure a fight-ending guillotine choke.
Tecia Pennington: Tecia Pennington used her striking to do damage to Carla Esparza, especially her leg kicks. That damage outweighed the ground control time that Esparza earned in the 15-minute scrap. The win ended a two-fight losing skid for Pennington.
Court McGee: Court McGee had a fantastic but short night on Saturday, picking up his first submission since he opened his UFC career with two straight submissions in 2010. McGee scored the win over the veteran competitor Tim Means.
McGee was aggressive early, looking to prevent Means from using his striking skills by pushing him against the fence. McGee then showed Means he could also strike, throwing some nice combinations when they worked in the open. Those strikes set up the takedown, leading to McGee getting Means’ back and sinking the sub.
The victory ended a three-fight losing skid for McGee, who had not won since he decisioned Ramiz Brahimaj in 2022.
UFC 307 Losers
Ovince Saint Preux: Competing in the last fight on his UFC contract, former interim UFC light heavyweight title challenger Ovince Saint Preux was on the wrong end of a submission to Ryan Spann.
Saint Preux is 2-3 in his past five outings. He has been with the UFC since 2013 after a three-year stint with Strikeforce.
Salt Lake City Fans: Booing Tecia Pennington while she attempted to bring awareness to breast cancer and speaking about a family member who lost their life to the disease was not a high-point on Saturday.
Carla Esparza: The two-time women’s UFC strawweight champion retired on Saturday following a unanimous decision loss to Tecia Pennington. What cost Esparza was her inability to do damage on the mat. Esparza had a decent amount of control time after securing takedowns, which is likely why she was on the wrong side of the decision.
Tim Means: Tim Means is now 1-5 in his past six outings, losing to Tim Means on Saturday. Means could not get anything going early against McGee, who controlled everything about the fight before earning an early submission.
