Packers WR Romeo Doubs Upset With Role, Skipped Practices

2024-10-06 00:35:02

All for one, one for all.

That was the 2023 Green Bay Packers.

Things appear to be different in 2024.

According to Bill Huber of SI.com, third-year wide receiver Romeo Doubs skipped practice Thursday and Friday because he was upset with his role in the team’s passing game.

Doubs was listed as doubtful to play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams on Green Bay’s injury report.

“It’s still day to day,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Friday.

Doubs practiced Wednesday, but according to SI.com, did not show up to team facility Thursday. The Packers then had to go to Doubs’ house on Thursday to find him.

After Thursday’s practice, LaFleur was asked why Doubs didn’t practice.

“It was personnel,” the Packers’ sixth-year coach said.

When LaFleur was asked if Doubs would be back Friday, he said: “I would hope so.”

That didn’t happen.

With Christian Watson (ankle) already doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Rams, the Packers could be extremely shorthanded at receiver.

Jayden Reed leads the Packers in receptions (17), receiving yards (336) and targets (22). Doubs is second in all three categories (12-169-20), but doesn’t have a touchdown reception.

Doubs ranks first on the Packers in total snaps (224) and was targeted a season-high eight times in Green Bay’s Week 4 loss to Minnesota. In the two games this season that quarterback Jordan Love has played, Doubs has been targeted 7.5 times per contest.

In 2023, Doubs was second on the Packers in catches (59) and yards (674) during the regular season, and tied for the team lead with eight receiving touchdowns. Doubs also ranked No. 4 in the NFL with seven receiving TDs in the red zone

Doubs then he had a sensational postseason with 10 receptions, 234 yards and two TDs in two games. His 234 receiving yards were the seventh most in franchise history in a single postseason and the second most by a player with two playoff games, or fewer, behind Davante Adams (298 yards in two games in 2019).

“I think for me, experience is everything,” Doubs said before the 2024 season. “There’s no doubt those were big games for me. But it’s not about me.

“We’ve all got a taste of what it’s like to be in the playoffs and what kind of mindset you have to have. It was a bitter feeling not coming out with the win (against San Francisco). But just kind of wrapping around that experience, it’s just progression for me. I’m looking forward to this year. I’m looking forward to the days, the grind and I’m excited to be part of this team.”
