San Jose Sharks, Oakland A’s studio host Brodie Brazil out at NBC

2024-09-06 11:25:04

Brodie Brazil, the longtime studio host for Oakland A’s and San Jose Sharks pre- and postgame shows on NBC Sports California, announced Thursday that his time with the cable network will soon end.

Brazil said his final show with NBC Sports will be Sept. 29 when the A’s play the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in their final game in “Oakland” uniforms.

A source indicated that Brazil’s contract wasn’t renewed by the network, which will continue to broadcast A’s games while the team is in Sacramento.

“I’m heartbroken to tell you that my time at NBC Sports is soon coming to an end,” Brazil said on his YouTube channel, which has over 46,000 subscribers. “As of right now when the A’s play their final game wearing Oakland across their chest on Sept. 29, it will also be my final show, after thousands at the network, since 2009.

“To satisfy your instant curiosities, nothing happened, But in the same breath, I don’t really have any answers to your likely questions.”

Brazil, a Castro Valley native and a 13-time Regional Emmy Award winner, lamented that the news came at the end of a tumultuous 2024 A’s season, which began with the team announcing in early April that it will play in Sacramento for at least three years, starting in 2025, ahead of the team’s planned move to Las Vegas in 2028. The move will end the team’s 57-year run at the Coliseum.

NBC Sports California has also been a longtime broadcast partner of the Sharks, who begin their regular season in October.

“What hits even harder … is how much I’ll miss my other main role at the network: covering the San Jose Sharks for NBC Sports,” said Brazil, a graduate of San Jose State. “To much sadness, and frustration, that is also going away, effective immediately.”

Brazil said he plans to remain in sports media and that he will remain active on YouTube. He hopes to stay in the Bay Area, but he added, “I’m a person of many interests, and it will be interesting to see how wide the horizon actually is and maybe what kinds of chances are about to come my way. I am extremely motivated to find what’s next and then lean all the way into it, just like I did these last 16 years at NBC.”
