Kill‘ produced by Karan Johar and starring newbie Lakshya is touted as ‘India’s Most Violent Film’. It was meant to have a niche target audience as it had earlier premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. While this movie may be produced by Karan Johar, this one is quite a unique film to come out of his production company. As the movie released in theatres, it was expected to have a dull opening.
‘Kill’ had a low opening of Rs 1.20 crore on Day 1, according to Sacnilk. The film has got a bit of hype as it comes from Dharma Productions, however, there has been no major promotions for the film and it has a lot of violence which doesn’t make it the first choice of the mass audience. The film might gain some footballs at the multiplexes. Netizens are comparing this one to the violence in ‘Animal’, however, the trade predicts that action movies with newcomers do not attract the audiences to cinema halls. Hence, despite the critical acclaim and the accolades which it got at the festivals, may not be able to translate to the box office numbers.
Meanwhile, ‘Kill’ is facing a tough competition from ‘Kalki 2898 Ad‘, which is slowly inching towards the Rs 500 crore as a sum total of the film in all five languages. Now with the cricket season over, the Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan starrer is expected to have a good second weekend and the Saturday and Sunday numbers will be a huge deciding factor when it comes to the fate of the movie.
