UNC-Chapel Hill provides a reminder of resources about voting to help community members make a plan to vote on Election Day this Nov. 5.
If you are already registered to vote, you can vote on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. The polls will be open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. You can check your registration, find your polling place and download a sample ballot at the N.C. State Board of Elections website. There is no same-day registration available on Election Day. The deadline to register to vote on Election Day itself has passed.
Most Carolina students who are registered to vote with a local address on or around campus are assigned to vote at the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Research in Black Culture and History (150 South Road).
Students and employees impacted by the Helene disaster can visit www.ncsbe.gov/Helene. This webpage includes information for those who may have lost their other acceptable form of Voter ID in the disaster.
All voters are required to show a photo ID in order to vote; please see NCSBE for potential exemptions to the photo ID requirement. For information about what forms of identification are accepted, visit the voter ID page on the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
As a result of recent litigation, the North Carolina Board of Elections will not accept the mobile UNC One Card as a form of voter ID, and the State Board has instructed county election officials of this decision. That means that students and employees may not use their mobile UNC One Card as a form of voter ID in the general election—neither for absentee voting nor for in-person voting.
This decision affects mobile One Card only. The physical student and employee UNC One Card IDs are still permitted to be used as voter ID.
Students and employees who only have a mobile One Card will need to make other arrangements to present other accepted forms of voter ID. Here are some resources available to students and employees:
Visit the One Card website. If you have questions about your residency or voter registration generally, visit the North Carolina State Board of Elections website.
