The 2024 NFL trade deadline a day away. Teams around the league are hustling to finalize their rosters for the second half of the season and beyond, and have until 4 p.m. ET on Nov. 5, to make a make those moves.
There’s been a flurry of deals around the NFL in the past few weeks, and more may be on the horizon over the next day. We’ve seen star veteran wide receivers traded: Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, DeAndre Hopkins, and Diontae Johnson. There are rumors that more receivers could be dealt ahead of the trade deadline. Multiple teams also need offensive line help or are searching to upgrade their pass-rush attack and secondary on defense.
Here’s everything to know about the 2024 NFL trade deadline and the latest rumors around the league.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the current expectation is that Smith will be traded to Detroit tonight or tomorrow,” Florio wrote Sunday afternoon during the 1 p.m. NFL action.
Florio reports during “Sunday Night Football” in Week 9. “One name to keep an eye on – tight end David Njoku,” Florio said. “He could be available for the right price.”
Archer reports that after the Cowboys’ third straight loss, Dallas could be in the market to improve the roster. “The point is, we got a shot, we think, to improve our roster.” Contrary to previous statements from Jerry Jones. He recently stated that the Cowboys aren’t expected to make any moves before the NFL trade deadline.
Schefter reports that the Steelers were “in the process” of trying to acquire Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Christian Kirk. However, the 27-year-old suffered a season-ending collarbone injury. As a result, the Steelers abandoned their pursuit of Kirk and turned their attention to other receivers on the market.
Adam Schefter reports players have recently told their agents they want to be traded to the Washington Commanders.
Russini reports that while there is “uncertainty about how the rest of 2024 will play out” for the Cowboys, they aren’t expected to make any moves before the NFL trade deadline. That largely lines up with what Jerry Jones has said about Dallas’ roster ahead of Nov. 5.
The Jets have received calls about starting receiver Garrett Wilson and No. 2 cornerback D.J. Reed ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline, Russini reports. New York isn’t expected to move either player or the recently acquired Davante Adams after improving to 3-6 on the season with a Week 9 win over the Houston Texans.
Jets interim coach Jeff Ulbrich spoke to reporters after New York’s “Thursday Night Football” victory over the Texans and said that the team’s No. 3 receiver, Allen Lazard, was dealing with a “really funky injury.” It is impacting the wideout’s sternum and the AC joint in his shoulder, per Ulbrich, and there is no timetable for his return.
Will the timing of Lazard’s injury lead the Jets to keep Mike Williams? It’s not guaranteed, but Lazard is on IR and will need to miss at least the next three games. The earliest Lazard can return is Week 14. Thus, Williams may have a better chance of sticking in New York than initially anticipated.
The phone lines close at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
