A woman and her boyfriend, Brandon, found a rug buried beneath a tree while digging in the backyard this week, now police are investigating amid internet speculation that it may be a dead body.
Katie Santry, a local content creator, took to her TikTok after finding a rug while digging holes in her backyard in Columbus, Ohio to build a fence. It has led down a mysterious path of questions as more unfolded.
Santry posted multiple TikTok videos questioning the rug, which appeared to be buried over “2 feet deep and possibly 6 feet long.” Santry and her boyfriend attempted to dig it up, but it was “too packed down” and there was a tree that had grown over it. (They found tree identification tag while digging – Bloodgood.)
In a series of TikTok videos, and prompts from viewers that pushed to know more … Santry called the police.
- Police initially came but claimed to not have resources or cause to dig and left
- Santry and her TikTok audience decided to keep digging with more help although unsuccessful
- Homicide detectives reached back and decided to come with cadaver dogs
- Thursday, in live video, two cadaver dogs, separately approached the dug-up area and “sat” leading to Santry’s home being taped-off with yellow police tape.
- On Friday, in another live, Santry describes the scene with over nine police officers and CSI with equipment investigating the area.
As of Friday morning, the investigation is ongoing at the 800 block of Cummington Road by Columbus police and investigators according to news reports.
