
LUCKNOW: A man shot his wife in the middle of a bustling Gorakhpur market at around 8pm on Wednesday. Bystanders took her to a private hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.The man, identified as Vishwakarma Chauhan, had concealed a pistol in his helmet. After shooting his wife, he reportedly stood at the scene for approximately 25 minutes, repeatedly stating, “I was very troubled by her”. Meanwhile, police arrived and took him into custody. The incident took place on Jail road in the Shahpur area. Vishwakarma and Mamta Chauhan had been married for 15 years. However, the couple had been embroiled in disputes for the past year and a half, leading to their separation.
Mamta lived with their 13-year-old daughter in a rented room near Geeta Vatika in the Shahpur area. She was employed at a private company on Bank road, while her parental home is in Khajni. The crime was committed outside a photo studio where Mamta had gone to have her photograph clicked. Meanwhile, Vishwakarma arrived on his bike and waited outside the studio. As Mamta exited the studio, an argument ensued between the couple, escalating into a physical altercation. In a fit of rage, Vishwakarma drew his pistol and fired two shots at Mamta, one hitting her chest and the other her hand.

Mamta collapsed on the spot, and nearby individuals transported her to a private hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Vishwakarma remained at the scene until the police arrived and arrested him.Shahpur police station’s SHO, Neeraj Rai said that an investigation is underway. Vishwakarma has been apprehended and is in police custody.
