Murder: Son murders father over property dispute | Delhi News

NEW DELHI: A 72-year-old retired MTNL mechanic was stabbed to death inside his home in New Ashok Nagar, east Delhi, on Saturday. Police have arrested the victim’s younger son, who is suspected of murdering his father over property. The son himself alerted police about the murder but tried to mislead them with a fabricated story.
The deceased was identified as Gautam Thakur.
Police said that they received a call at 8.40 am regarding the murder. Mahesh Thakur, the younger son of Gautam Thakur, told cops that around 6:15 am, he was alerted by a disturbance emanating from his father’s room. He said that upon entering the room, he encountered two unidentified individuals who assaulted him and fled the scene. Mahesh then informed his brother and other family members about the murder. A case was subsequently registered.
However, during the investigation, multiple discrepancies were discovered in Mahesh’s account of the events. His behaviour throughout the process also raised suspicion. A police source said that he broke down under intensive interrogation and confessed to the crime.
Mahesh told cops that his father had sold a property two years ago and had utilised a portion of the proceeds to assist his elder brother in acquiring a property in New Ashok Nagar. Recently, Mahesh also discovered that his father was planning to sell the building where the family currently resided, in conjunction with the elder son, and was keeping it a secret from him. Feeling betrayed and helpless about securing his family’s future, Mahesh planned and executed his father’s murder while the rest of the family was asleep.
Following his confession, he was arrested, and the weapon used in the crime, a large kitchen knife, was recovered at his behest.
Thakur retired from the service in the year 2012 and was living with his two sons and their families in New Ashok Nagar.
