Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and sought central aid for several development and security projects in his state.
Reddy has sought the allocation of some coal blocks to Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) as this is “vital for the power needs of the state”, a release issued by Telangana Chief Minister’s Office read. The CM has also sought revival of the Information Technology Investment Region to boost IT infrastructure in the state.
Reddy has also sought allocation of 2,450 acres of defence land to the state for infrastructure projects, “including elevated corridors on the Hyderabad-Karimnagar and Hyderabad-Nagpur highways (NH-44)”. The state has offered land alternatively in Raviryal. The CM has sought 25 lakh houses for Telangana under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and also sought establishment of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Hyderabad.
Reddy, who was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, also sought the release of `1,800 crore under the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) for the years 2019-2024. As many as 13 state highways could be developed into national highways, Reddy has pointed out.
In his meeting with the Home Minister, Reddy “sought funds and additional resources for security departments”. He asked Shah for `88 crore and `90 crore respectively, for modernisation of two of the state’s highest intelligence departments — the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau and Telangana Cyber Security Bureau.
Reddy said there should be a review of IPS cadre every five years and urged Shah to “conduct the review, which was last done in 2016 for Telangana”.
“At the time of state bifurcation, Telangana was allocated 61 IPS posts, which are now insufficient for the new state’s requirements. Therefore, the Chief Minister requested an additional 29 IPS posts for Telangana,” the statement said.
The Chief Minister has asked for the establishment of security force camps, similar to those set up in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, in Adilabad, Mancherial, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts, to counter left-wing extremism.
He sought the establishment of CRPF Joint Task Force camps in Kondavai village of Charla Mandal, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, and Alubaka village of Venkatapuram Mandal, Mulugu district. “Given Telangana’s extensive border with neighboring states, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of focusing more on the state’s security,” the release read.
