HYDERABAD: Bowenpally police registered a case against four teenagers, including two minors, for igniting firecrackers placed on bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Bapuji Nagar.
Police initiated suo-motu action against teenagers after videos, which were posted on Snapchat and other platforms went viral, showing minor damage to Mahatma Gandhi’s bust. The teenagers have been detained.
Authorities reported that the group filmed the act and posted it on Snapchat, leading to its rapid spread online. “The teenagers have been identified and are residents of Bapuji Nagar, where the incident occurred.
Further investigation is ongoing,” stated B Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, station house officer (SHO) of Bowenpally.
Earlier, in response to the incident, BRS leader Krishank Manne shared the videos on X, urging police action.
“Request @CVAnandIPS to kindly take suo motu action on this indecent act with Gandhi Ji’s statue in Bowenpally Police Station Limits, Cantonment. It has become a fashion to insult the Father of this Nation,” he posted on X.
