NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old man was shot dead by his friends in Gandhi Nagar on Saturday. Police apprehended three minors who claimed that the victim, Sufian, had slapped two of them after an argument over not returning his cap, and they wanted revenge.
Police are currently searching for another boy and his mother, as she is suspected of providing the weapon and scooter used in the crime.
Police received a PCR call about the shooting in Chanderpuri area of Kailash Nagar, Gandhi Nagar. A team from the local police station quickly arrived at the scene. Sufian, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, had already been taken to a hospital by beat staff but was declared dead on arrival.
A case was registered under sections related to murder, common intention, and the Arms Act. FSL and crime teams examined the area and collected various exhibits for further analysis.
Deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam said three teams were formed to investigate and solve the case. CCTV footage was reviewed to trace the suspects’ escape route.
During the probe, three boys aged 16 to 17 were apprehended—two from northeast Delhi and one from Ghaziabad. A country-made pistol and the scooter used in the crime were recovered based on information provided during questioning.
“We are currently searching for another 16-year-old boy and his mother, as they were involved in the crime. She provided the country-made pistol to her son,” DCP said.
The accused informed police that the conflict started when Sufian slapped the two boys over a cap they had taken from him at a gaming parlour. When Sufian asked for the cap back, they refused, sparking a dispute that continued for 10 days. Family members on both sides were aware of the tension.
