If you’re a fan of the movie “Mean Girls,” you likely know why the date of October 3 has significance and is more “fetch” than other days in the year.
Since the release of the hit comedy 20 years ago, Oct. 3 is commonly referred to as “Mean Girls Day.” But, why is this the case?
In the movie, actress Lindsay Lohan, who played Cady Heron, begins talking with her crush, Aaron Samuels, played by Jonathan Bennett.
Lohan is responsible for an iconic line when she says in a voice-over montage, “On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was.”

“It’s October 3rd,” Lohan says in the scene.
In honor of the movie’s 20th anniversary, “Mean Girls” is returning to many theaters across the country on October 3.
Earlier this year, Tina Fey created and released a new “Mean Girls” movie – an adaptation of the Broadway musical, which was inspired by the 2004 film.
Just like the 2004 version, the musical movie follows Cady’s move to the suburbs, where she experiences the treacherous hierarchies of high school.

There, she finds herself accepted by an elite yet shallow group of girls known as the Plastics, led by Regina George — played by Reneé Rapp.
It was billed as “a new twist from Tina Fey,” incorporating songs and new technology, but Fey said the “core story” still resonated two decades later.
