‘1000-Lb. Sisters’ Star Amy Slaton Arrested on Drug Possession, Child Endangerment Charges

Reality TV personality Amy Slaton, one of TLC’s “1000-Lb. Sisters,” was arrested at a Tennessee wildlife park on Monday on suspicion of illegal drug possession and child endangerment.

The incident unfolded at the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, Tennessee, where deputies with the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office had been dispatched in response to a call that a guest—later identified as the 36-year-old reality star—had been bitten by a camel.

“Upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle,” the sheriff’s department wrote in a Facebook post.

Slaton, who shares two children, Gage, 3, and Glenn, 2, with her ex-husband, Michael Halterman, was taken into custody for alleged “illegal possession of Schedule I [drugs], illegal possession of Schedule VI [drugs], and two counts of child endangerment.”

Arrested on the same charges was Brian Scott Lovvorn, who was in the vehicle with Slaton. They were subsequently booked into the Crockett County Jail.

“The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence,” the statement reads. “The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.”

In a separate Facebook post published on Sept. 3, the sheriff’s department noted that Crockett County General Sessions Judge Paul Conley had set Slaton and Lovvorn’s bonds at $10,000 each.

A representative for Slaton could not immediately be reached for comment.

‘1000-Lb. Sisters’

Amy Slaton and her elder sister, Tammy Slaton, 38, first gained popularity on YouTube, where they regularly uploaded videos about their lives. After growing their fanbase, the sisters landed their own reality show on TLC, which chronicled their respective weight loss journeys.

The first season of “1000-Lb. Sisters,” which premiered in January 2020, explored Amy Slaton’s struggles with having children, including her decision to undergo gastric bypass, a type of bariatric surgery, in an effort to lose weight so that she could have a healthy pregnancy.

The reality star went on to welcome her first son, Gage, in November 2020.

In July 2022, shortly after the birth of their second child, Amy Slaton told Today, “Michael and I are happy to announce the birth of our son, Glenn Allen Halterman. The delivery was a huge success, and now I have both of my miracle boys; our family is complete!”

Tammy Slaton’s weight loss surgery was also featured on “1000-Lb. Sisters.” In season four, the television personality—who weighed over 700 pounds at the start of the season—was finally able to have the procedure done after losing enough weight to qualify for bariatric surgery.

The show’s fifth season, which began in December 2023, documented some of the struggles the Slaton sisters experienced throughout that year, including Amy Slaton’s divorce, which was finalized that September.

The season also covered the death of Tammy Slaton’s husband, Caleb Willingham, whom she wed in November 2022. Willingham passed away in June 2023 at the age of 40 due to complications of super morbid obesity, per In Touch Weekly.

The day after Willingham’s death, Tammy Slaton took to Instagram to pay tribute to her late husband.

“Rip sweet angel you will forever be missed and loved so much,” she wrote. “Thank you Caleb for showing me real love and happiness.”
