Anthony Edwards leads U.S. to Olympics win

The United States men’s basketball team will play its final group game against Puerto Rico in the 2024 Paris Olympics on Saturday in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, France.

Team USA (2-0) sits atop the Group C standings with four points following a 103-86 win over South Sudan on Wednesday. Puerto Rico (0-2) is in fourth place with two points following a 107-66 loss to Serbia on Wednesday.

FINAL: USA 104, Puerto Rico 83

Team USA earned a 104-83 win over Puerto Rico on Saturday.

Edwards scored a game-high 26 points off the bench, while Tatum recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alvarado led Puerto Rico with 18 points and three assists.

The United States finished Group C play with a 3-0 record. It’ll be the No. 1 seed in the knockout round, which begins with the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

End third quarter: USA 87, Puerto Rico 59

Team USA outscored Puerto Rico 23-14 in the third quarter to expand its lead. Edwards scored seven points, bringing his game-high total to 19.

Alvarado scored another five points for Puerto Rico, which brought his team-high total to 18.

Halftime: USA 64, Puerto Rico 45

Team USA outscored Puerto Rico 39-16 in the second quarter to take control of the game. Edwards racked up a team-high 12 points off the bench in the first half, while James recorded eight points and six assists.

Alvarado led Puerto Rico with a game-high 13 points to go along with two assists.

End first quarter: Puerto Rico 29, USA 25

Puerto Rico went on an 11-0 run late in the first quarter to take the lead. Alvarado recorded nine points and two assists in the quarter.

Tatum and Anthony Edwards scored six points apiece for Team USA.
