South Africa’s explosive batter David Miller has quashed reports of his retirement after the T20 World Cup 2024 loss. Miller took to his Instagram story to flag certain reports regarding him calling off time on his T20I career. The Proteas batter clarified that he would still continue to be available for his national side in the shortest format of the game. South Africa suffered a heart-breaking loss to India in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval, Barbados on June 29, Saturday. In a thrilling final match, South Africa lost by 7 runs as they failed to chase down the target of 177 runs.
After Heinrich Klaasen’s dismissal, South Africa’s hopes were on Miller to help the team cross the line. Miller faced the first ball of the last over against Hardik Pandya when South Africa needed 16 runs to lift their first-ever World Cup. It was a low wide full toss from Hardik and Miller got in line to heave it along the line. It flew towards long-off and was going over Suryakumar Yadav, who plucked the catch at the boundary rope. It has been regraded as the World Cup winning catch by Surya as the dangerous Miller departed for 21 (17) and also took away South Africa’s hopes of lifting the trophy with him.
South Africa had a chance to win a World Cup trophy as they featured in their maiden final of the tournament under the leadership of Aiden Markram. The South African players and Miller was left heartbroken and in tears after the match and was consoled by his wife on the field.
Miller in his Instagram post clarified about his retirement prospects and declared that the best is yet to come.
“Contrary to some reports, I have not retired from T20 international cricket. I will continue to be available to play for the Proteas. The best is yet to come,” Miller posted on his Instagram.
