The pre-wedding rituals of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant kicked off on Wednesday night with the ‘mameru’ ceremony, a significant event in Gujarati weddings.
This traditional pre-wedding ritual, held at the Ambani residence in Mumbai, signifies the blessings and well-wishes bestowed upon the couple by the groom’s maternal family.
Led by Nita Ambani’s mother Purnima Dalal and sister Mamta Dalal, close relatives from Nita Ambani’s side came together to shower blessings and gifts on the soon-to-be-wed couple.
Dressed in stunning traditional outfits, Anant and Radhika were the centre of attention as they stood on a raised platform amidst cheering guests. Videos show the vibrant atmosphere of the ceremony.
The ceremony also included the presentation of ‘mameru’, a traditional set of gifts offered by the groom’s maternal uncles and family.
These pre-wedding festivities, including ‘mosalu’ and ‘mameru’, beautifully illustrate the importance placed on family in Gujarati weddings. They serve not only as a way to shower the couple with love and well-wishes, but also as a cherished opportunity for the extended family to come together and celebrate the upcoming union.
Anant Ambani, son of India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, is all set to marry his longtime sweetheart Radhika on July 12, in what is being called India’s “wedding of the year”.
