Throning: The new trend in dating: What is ‘throning’ and why are people doing it? |

In this evolving and fast-paced world of relationships, where we often hear new dating terms like ghosting, breadcrumbing, situationship, and gaslighting, a new term is now gaining much attention– known as “throwing.”. But what does it mean, and is throning healthy in a relationship? Let’s explore more about it in this article.
What is “throning”?
Throning is a term that has gained popularity on social media recently. It refers to when someone flaunts their partner mainly for their status and popularity, to level up their game and standards. It may look like “putting someone on the throne” to make them look good rather than valuing their partner for who they are as a person. People can do this by flaunting their accomplishments, appearance, and social standing to improve their reputation. While people who are at the receiving end of throning might feel it is flattering in the beginning, but over time they’ll realise that their relationship lacks an emotional bond. There is a high chance such relationships are only attraction, and they may not be in love. The person who puts their partner on the throne is attracted by their personality and appearance and ignores the person outside the status and clothes. The person on the throne may be happy with the attention, validation, and appreciation but soon may realise they are being used and taken for granted.
Why does throning look fascinating?

Throning may look fascinating initially because it is a compelling concept. Everyone likes to be treated like a princess or prince; they want their partner to make them feel special and validated. People come into relationships to get attention, validation, comfort, and love from their partner. And so, throning can make a person feel comfort, appreciation, validation, and attention from their partner, as they may feel undervalued in other areas of their life.
Throning may sound like a dream, but a partner who keeps you on the throne gives you validation, attention, and appreciation all the time only in front of others. While it makes one feel important and special, it is important to remember that a person may do this for their own benefit. A healthy and loving relationship is built on mutual love, respect, and responsibility. Rather than throning your partner, celebrate each other’s achievements and support each other in life for a lasting love.
