2024-11-03 14:00:02

The Week 10 showdown between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes lived up to expectations as another undefeated team falls ahead of the first College Football Playoff rankings.

The Nittany Lions kicked off against Ohio State with strong momentum, taking an early lead in the first quarter after the Buckeyes‘ quarterback, Will Howard, threw a pick-6, which Penn State’s cornerback Zion Tracy, intercepted and returned for a touchdown. However, Howard quickly regained his composure and successfully led his Buckeyes to the end zone twice, allowing Ohio State to take the lead in the second quarter. The Buckeyes maintained this lead as they headed into halftime.

In the second half, the game turned into a contest between the kickers, with field goals adding points to the scoreboard throughout the third and fourth quarters as both teams intensified their efforts. Ohio State’s defense successfully stopped Penn State from reaching the end zone on two critical attempts. Ultimately, the Buckeyes edged past the Nittany Lions with a 20-13 victory, keeping their College Football Playoff hopes alive.

Indeed, it might not take long for league officials to decide that maybe the way conference champs are chosen might need rethinking, especially given the weight the playoff format places on conference championships for seeding purposes. — Eddie Timanus
