HYDERABAD: A passenger on an Indigo flight from Doha to city Hyderabad was caught smoking in the aircraft’s lavatory, triggering a smoke alert mid-flight.
The passenger, Vannathankandi Meethal Ajmal, was handed over to airport security staff after the flight landed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 8.30am. The incident occurred on Oct 24, and police later registered a case.
According to the report filed by IV Manideep, an employee of InterGlobe Aviation Pvt. Ltd., the crew was alerted by a smoke alarm from the lavatory and found the passenger smoking. They confiscated his lighter and notified the pilot. Authorities filed an FIR based on the incident citing Section 125 of the BCAS Act, which penalises negligent actions that risk passenger safety.
